What is the job outlook of dancing?
Hi,
I'm wondering, what is the job outlook of dancing??

Hello Wondering Dancer!
You didn't leave your name, but I think you have an important question. We need to be aware of our options as we progress in the dance field.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics writes a report every year on different job markets including dance and choreography. If you are serious about making a career in dance, read the whole report. It's a very practical look at the industry.
The general consensus is that, because of the economy, growth in the dance industry is down from what it has been in the past. That means that there are less dance jobs being created now and that there is more competition for dance jobs that already exist. You can stay updated on the jobs that are out there on a dance job site like GetDancerJobs.com.
Experts project that large and mid-sized companies will be fine. They just might not have as many performances as in the past. Also, there is not a lot of donation and grant money out there for new companies, so not many will survive.
What does that mean for dancers? We need to be smart. Dance, train, but also be developing skills in a side market that can support you and your dancing.
Look for professions with flexible schedules like hair stylists, nail techs and baristas. Doing temp work can also provide needed flexibility.
If you plan well, you can support yourself while you wait for the right opportunities in your dance career. And there are still opportunities, you just might have to be more patient in finding them. If you don't get a dance job as soon as you wanted, take it as an opportunity to broaden your skills. Read more about diversifying your technique.
If you are one of those who just has dance in their blood, you can find a way to support yourself through rocky times and still find your place in the dance world. It will just take some patience.
Hang in there!!
