Leather Ballet Slippers or Canvas?

Leather Ballet Shoes

Pros

Leather ballet slippers are one of the most classic looks you can get. They look so... official. The look you want is definitely a matter of personal preference unless your choreographer wants a specific shoe.

Leather ballet shoes also tend to be better on wood floors. Wood floors are often more slippery than marley. Leather will give a little more traction than canvas.

Cons

- Leather can't be thrown in the washer.

- Leather is a bit stiffer to move in.

- It is a bit more expensive.

Canvas Ballet Shoes

Pros

Canvas ballet shoes are cheaper than leather by about 5 bucks, but still! 5 bucks!

Canvas has other good qualities too.

- It is durable

- It is light to wear

- It gives in well to the arch of your foot

- It NEVER sticks to the floor

I suggest canvas especially if you are a casual ballet dancer or are still growing.

Cons

Canvas gets dirtier. You can throw them in the washer, but they seem to break down a bit faster when I do that.

So canvas or leather? It's kind’ of up to you. Try them both out or ask your dance friends or teachers if they have a preference. Either way, if the shoe fits, your foot will feel fabulous!
