What is the best shoe for beginners? Here is some information about what makes Bloch unique so that you can make good decisions about your shoes.
Bloch’s are known for being a great shoe for beginners. A lot of teachers start their pointe students in Bloch.Bloch’s generally... -Have a wider box -Have a wider platform -Have stronger shanks
There are, of course, models that vary from these attributes including the Alpha which is softer, narrower and designed for experienced dancers. Bloch shanks are harder in general, so if your arches are weaker, might want to look at Capezio or Grishko instead. A wide, square box makes balancing easier. However, it also means a boxier look. This could be a downside and is actually why I never used them. (That and my arches are so wimpy, they couldn't handle the stronger shank.)
Always be fitted for your pointe shoes. If you don't have a shoe store nearby, ask a trusted pointe teacher to help you order and try a few pair to find the right one. It might take some time, but it is worth it.Read up on Bloch's different styles of pointe shoes.
